Voice Dictation FAQ

How does voice dictation work in MinimalistNotes?

Click the microphone button and start talking. Your speech is converted to text in real-time using your browser's Web Speech API. Works in Chrome, Edge, Safari, and other modern browsers.

Is voice dictation free?

Yes, completely free. Voice dictation uses your browser's built-in speech recognition - no API costs, no subscriptions, no limits on usage.

Does voice dictation work offline?

It depends on your browser. Chrome requires internet for speech recognition. Safari can work offline on macOS. Either way, your transcribed notes are stored locally.

What about text-to-speech?

MinimalistNotes can read your notes aloud using your browser's built-in speech synthesis - no external APIs required. Coming soon: optional support for premium voices via your own ElevenLabs or OpenAI API key (BYOK).

What languages are supported?

Voice dictation supports whatever languages your browser's speech recognition supports - typically dozens of languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, and many more.
